Today is National Spaghetti Day!
If you ask me, every day should be National Spaghetti Day! I love pasta. If it’s true that what you eat is what you are, you can just call me Pasta. Or Spaghetti, or Farfalle, or even Rotini. Just don’t call me late to dinner when spaghetti is on the table!
Sorry, that was bad…
What I love about spaghetti is how diverse it is. You can make it with a traditional tomato sauce, a cream sauce like alfredo sauce, mushroom sauce, or even vodka sauce, or skip the sauce altogether and opt for a nice vegetable primavera. Spaghetti can be served with beef, sausage, even seafood.
In the grocery store the spaghetti aisle is quite large compared to other single dinners, and there are hundreds of different types of sauces and pasta that you can buy. This is because spaghetti reigns supreme in the world of dinner!
It only takes about 15 minutes or so, from packaging to table, to whip up a delicious, comforting plate of pasta, meat and sauce. As you can imagine, in my family of five with three hungry kids, spaghetti is a regular addition to our weekly menus.
I have a close friend from the Dominican Republic who makes the most delicious Dominican foods. Several years ago I cooked spaghetti for her and her son and I was surprised that she had never made spaghetti before. She watched me as I made it, and has been thanking me ever since for showing her how.
Since January 4 is also National Trivia Day, here is a bit of trivia for you:
The word spaghetti is actually plural for the word spaghetto (not the same as “spa ghetto”) which means “thin string”. The Italians are not known for being eloquent food namers like the French, but you gotta give them a pass on this one, ladies and gentlemen, because spaghetti is the bomb!
When it comes to spaghetti I prefer to keep it simple and buy my sauce instead of making it. I don’t really have a favorite brand but I love Vodka Sauce and Italian Sausage the best.
What are your favorite ways to make spaghetti?

I love Classico sauce… four cheese is my favorite but Classico is the brand! YUM. I keep mine simple as well, and I do prefer to not mix my sauce and noodles only put the sauce on top. Oh and PARM cheese is a MUST

I’m a huge Spaghetti fan. It’s amazing how everyone makes spaghetti and it taste so different. The only dish of spaghetti I didn’t like is when my sister in-law put sugar in the sauce. NASTY!
BTW when did you start this blog? I love food!

I started it January 1st! Thanks for sharing. I’ll be sure to avoid the sugar.

Well, since I am lucky enough to be married to a 100% Italian man, I also enjoy the benefit of eating classic Italian meals made by a native Italian woman. =) I am partial to simple spaghetti and marinara sauce with meatballs or sausage. Mmmmmmm!

Maybe you can pull off a recipe heist. I wouldn’t be opposed to trying to make my own sauce someday.

Pasta is great with so many things.
I like spicy sausage, kalamata olives, and even clams sometimes.
Thanks Tim, I’m loving this blog.

A really long time ago I was invited to a dinner where a friend made fish with a maple type marinade (I didn’t have any but everybody said it was amazing) but unfortunately she wouldn’t give me the recipe. I have never cooked fish before but Im not a beginner in the kitchen. What fish should I use, How do I make the marinade and cook it? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

I would check AllRecipes.com. They have a huge database of recipes and you can read reviews and see what people did different. Its one of the places I get my recipes from. I’m kind of a novice in the kitchen and am using this blog to hone my skills a little. I love fish and when there’s a fish day I’ll look into something like this. Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoy reading all year!
